Sarnath Tour (Duration - 02 hours 30 minutes approx).
Sarnath is a holy spot of Buddhism. Lord Buddha preached his first sermon here after attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gaya. The event in the Buddhist texts is known as the dharmachakra-pravarttana, ‘Turning the Wheel of Law’ At Sarnath, Buddha also laid the foundation of Sangha or the order of monks.
Visit the main temple of Sarnath. This temple has excellent Frescoes made by a Japanese artist.
Proceed to the ruins. The ancient Mulagandha Kuti Temple is among the brick ruins of Sarnath. Walk around the beautiful garden and see the ruins of different monasteries and temples and the massive Dhamek Stupa, the most remarkable structure at Sarnath built in the 3rd century B.C.
Finally visit the archeological museum of Sarnath. Sarnath yielded a rich collection of Buddhist sculptures comprising numerous Buddha and Bodhisattva images. Considered amongst the finest specimens of Buddhist art, these have been housed in the museum, adjacent to the site. It houses the magnificent Lion capital, India’s National Emblem.
